Zulqarnain is missing after winning run
The recent newly wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider of Pakistan has gone missing before ODI against South Africa at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After played winning run in last ODI against South Africa, the PCB has informed the ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit as well as local security officials of Haider’s disappearance. Nadeem Sarwar, PCB’s general manager said, “He is missing and we found this out in the morning when were getting ready to come to the stadium, He did not say anything to the team management about this at all. We have initiated inquiries into the matter. A message left by him said: “leaving Pakistan cricket because he got threatening messages from someone on previous match.” The last match closely fought and in which Haider’s unbeaten 19 took Pakistan to victory with his winning run.
Raza Haider, Zulqarnain’s brother said, “my brother had reportedly received threats. “I spoke to Zulqarnain after the fourth ODI and he told me he had received threats after that game but he gave no details.” Geo, a leading Pakistani news channel published that one of its correspondents received a text message from Haider asking for security for his family in Lahore.
In Lahore, senior superintendent of police Rana Faisal said security has been provided for Haider’s family.”We have deployed police officials at Haider’s residence, so that they can be guarded properly if there is any threat,” he said. The passports of players are generally kept with management officials but Sarwar said, “He took his passport from us last night for something about which we do not have any info”.
Other PCB officials were unavailable while Team manager Intikhab Alam said: “I can only confirm that Haider did not come with the team to the ground and we are looking for him.” TV channels spoke to Haider’s relatives, including his brother Aqil, who said “he had spoken to his brother on Sunday night but was given no indication. The fact that he left is very clear. The reason still unclear.”
Zulqarnain replaced Kamran Akmal for the second Test against England this summer and made a fighting 88 in the second innings. He picked up a finger injury during the game. He did indicate at the time that he was unhappy though he was selected again for the current series. Whether it is Cricket evil which was transferred to him after Salman Butt, Asif and Amir or it is good news for K.Akmal for back adjustment in the Cricket Team.
